Frequently Asked Questions
The Château de Chambord was built on the site of the former castle of the Counts of Blois in 1519, on the orders of François I, then a young king of France.
He wanted to make it a house that could accommodate the Court during its hunting parties, but he quickly modified the original plans and Chambord became a vast castle halfway between the power of the medieval fortress and the finesse of a Renaissance residence.
It also bears witness to the technical prowess of the time, notably the creation of the famous central double-revolution staircase serving the various flats.
However, François I only stayed at Chambord for a few days, as the castle was not completely finished until after his death.
Chambord was only inhabited very occasionally, notably by Louis XIV, who gave grand parties there and welcomed Molière for the premieres of two of his plays.
It became a national estate in 1930 and is now one of the most visited sites in France.
During your stay in the Loire Valley, Logis Loir-et-Cher invites you to discover the charm of a hotel in Chambord, a gastronomic table in an inn in Tour en Sologne or a hotel with swimming pool in Bracieux, a small village in Sologne less than 10 kilometres from the castle.
