Frequently Asked Questions
If you are staying in Paris, whether for business or pleasure, we advise you to stay in the heart of the capital and find a hotel facing the Ile de la Cité, where it all began.
It is indeed on this island in the Seine that the Gauls probably settled in the 3rd century BC.
It was also here that Lutetia, the ancestor of Paris, developed and that Clovis decided to establish the capital of the Frankish kingdom.
Little by little, the island was developed and fortified and included several small neighbouring islets.
It soon became the seat of power and the main religious centre of the region and a first royal residence was founded under the Capetians.
Although Paris later expanded onto the Ile Saint-Louis and the banks of the Seine, the Ile de la Cité is still considered the cradle of the city and many tourists come to see two of the capital's main monuments, Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Palais Royal which serves as the Palais de Justice.
The Conciergerie prison, the Hôtel-Dieu, the oldest hospital in Paris, the various quays bordering the island, including the famous Quai des Orfèvres, which houses the offices of the Judicial Police, the Place du Pont-Neuf, the Place Dauphine, not forgetting the nine bridges linking the island to the banks of the Seine and the Île Saint-Louis, are all sights to be discovered during your visit to the Île de la Cité.
