Frequently Asked Questions
Created in 2012, the Pibeste-Aoulhet regional nature reserve in the Pyrenees covers 5110 hectares, making it the largest regional nature reserve in France.
The reserve's mission is to protect the local environment and the many plant and animal species.
The massif has the particularity of having three climate zones, oceanic, sub-mediterranean and mountainous, which explains its incredible biodiversity.
Hikers can thus meet isards, mouflons, martens, forest cats as well as numerous species of bats, amphibians and birds.
By choosing a hotel close to the Pibeste-Aoulhet regional nature reserve, you have access to a dozen marked trails and a botanical trail allowing you to discover some rare species of plants and mushrooms.
You can also meet shepherds leading their flocks and visit small mountain villages with an interesting architectural heritage, notably the tower of Agos-Vidalos built in the 12th century and the town of Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre, an ancient pilgrimage site on the road to Santiago de Compostela.
