Frequently Asked Questions
In 1680, Edouard François Colbert, brother of Louis XIV's Controller General of Finances and Count of Maulévrier, had a vast château built on his land around a main courtyard.
His descendants created a romantic park behind the building.
Part of the estate was transformed at the beginning of the 20th century into an Oriental park influenced by the Japanese gardens of the EDO period.
Abandoned in 1945, the park was bought back and restored by the commune in 1980.
The Oriental Park of Maulévrier is an ideal destination for a romantic weekend.
It is a place for walking and discovering, and offers its visitors a succession of water features, small islands, rivers and gardens with more than 400 species of plants, as well as constructions such as a bridge and various elements of buildings bought back after the closure of the World Fair in Paris in 1900.
It is also possible to learn traditional Japanese arts such as Bonsai, Ikebana or Kyudo.
