Frequently Asked Questions
Situated in the Hautes-Alpes, the Col de l'Izoard, at an altitude of 2361 metres, links the towns of Briançon and Château-Ville-Vieille.
Known as one of the mythical passes of the Tour de France, it attracts many cyclists every year who want to tackle the winding laces through a forest before reaching the Case Déserte, a particularly arid and rocky area, a lunar landscape.
By choosing a hotel near the Col de l'Izoard, you can take on this giant of the Alps.
The most experienced will start from Guillestre and will cross the 1380 meters of difference in altitude in a little more than 30 kilometres.
The climb from Briançon is slightly easier but still has an average gradient of 8%.
If you have chosen to stay in Guillestre, be sure to visit the remains of the town's ramparts, notably the Tour d'Eygliers and the church of Notre-Dame d'Aquilon.
Hikers will also enjoy discovering the Plan de Phazy, a hot spring that has been exploited since ancient times for its therapeutic virtues.
Today, the spring is no longer in use, due to a lack of takers, but is a delight for young and old alike who come to bathe in one of the pools.
