We booked through Booking.com for a country hotel/restaurant/bar. We arrived at 13:00hrs and asked for lunch while we waited for the room to be ready but the bar and restaurant were closed because it was the owners' "day off". The nearest alternative eating places were 4 kms away and after a hurried lunch there we decided that this was not what we had expected so left.
The owner reported it to Booking.com as a "No Show". That was a lie. The whole experience was unpleasant with an arrogant owner that seems to think it is normal for him to have a day off with guests in the hotel and unable to eat or drink there. One of the worst experiences we have ever had in misrepresentative hotel bookings.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Xoko-Goxoa. It was my first visit to the Basque Country, but possibly my second if you include the trip to Bilboa, and the area more than met my expectations. This hotel was perhaps the friendliest and most welcoming of any I have stayed at so far. Everything was clean and well maintained, the room was basic but more than adequate and the bed very comfortable which, given that I had spent my days hiking and was tired in the evenings, was very nice to have. I ate in the restaurant on three evenings and enjoyed all the dishes - the seared foie gras and the lamb being particularly good. I look forward to returning to the hotel and the area in the future.
