Frequently Asked Questions
At the entrance to the Arcachon basin, the traveller is surprised by the unusual landscape formed by the Dune du Pilat (or Pyla) which, at over 110 metres, is the highest dune in Europe.
Bordered on one side by the Atlantic Ocean and on the other by the Landes de Gascogne, the dune extends for almost three kilometres along the Côte d'Argent.
Little by little, the immense dune is gaining ground on the pine forest and burying the trees at a rate of 1 to 5 metres per year, while its northern face is eroding under the effect of bad weather.
The Dune du Pilat was inhabited during protohistory and archaeological excavations have brought to light the remains of ancient campsites.
Due to the fragility of the site, preservation measures have been taken and the Dune is now classified.
However, it remains one of the most visited natural sites in France and sporting activities are organised during the season.
Logis Gironde offers you a pleasant stay in Aquitaine by booking your holidays as a couple or with your family in a hotel in Arcachon with direct access to the ocean or in a comfortable family hotel near the port of Lanton, the starting point for excursions to the Ile aux oiseaux and the oyster beds in the bay.
