Frequently Asked Questions
Less well known than its big brothers Chambord or Chenonceau, the Castle of Serrant located in Saint-Georges-sur-Loire nevertheless deserves all our attention.
A former medieval stronghold, the current castle was built in the 16th and 17th centuries and offers its visitors a sumptuous renaissance-style facade, reflected in the waters of the moat, the last vestige of its predecessor.
It houses one of the finest collections of antique furniture in France.
Owned by the Princes of Merode, the Château de Serrant is open to the public and also offers several rooms for hire for private events or exhibitions.
The vast kitchen, the library housing more than 12,000 books and old manuscripts, the Empire Room which recalls the brief passage of Napoleon I through the castle, the chapel built in memory of the Marquis de Vaubrun, each room in the castle is furnished with refinement.
If you choose a hotel near the Château de Serrant, you can extend your visit by the English gardens, a park designed in the 18th century by the Irish Walsh family who owned the estate at the time.
The various outbuildings of the castle, stables, dovecote and orangery have also retained their original appearance.
Don't miss a visit to the Saint-Georges-sur-Loire Town Hall, which has the particularity of occupying the buildings of a former 16th century abbey.
